about us

„Technology is the effort to save effort.“

Baltasar Gracián y Morales (1601 – 1658), Spanish Jesuit, moral philosopher and writer

ZUMOLab is a small, owner-operated engineering company which specialises in the development of test benches. The company was founded in 2014 by Christian Moritz and Dominic Zuleger – two former students of electrical engineering – as a spin-off from RWTH Aachen. Our office is located in Wesseling and is therefore within the sphere of influence of three outstanding universities in North Rhine-Westphalia – Cologne, Bonn and Aachen. Through our work, we build a bridge between research and industry. As, in addition to project planning and software development, we support and advise scientists in all aspects of their scientific work, from the choice of topics to the presentation of the results.

How it all began

After completing their studies and working for many years in the field of machine planning and software development, Christian and Dominic recognised the need in the university research environment to support “non-specialist” institutes in the planning and development of their experimental setups. Soon afterwards, the Institute of Chemical Process Engineering at RWTH Aachen became their first customer and have been supported by ZUMOLab since, especially in the development of software projects with the graphic development environment LabVIEW.

A few months after creation, the duo was reinforced by Stefanie Kriescher, who has been managing the company together with Christian since autumn 2015. Stefanie supports the team primarily through her doctoral experience and helps to translate the scientific requirements into real test and inspection systems.

ZUMOLab Today

Over the years a variety of challenging tasks and customer-specific requirements have broadened our horizons and sharpened our core competencies. Today we offer interdisciplinary engineering services and products, including solutions for customers from the university environment and industrial customers.

After completing her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, Stefanie completed her master’s degree in chemical engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology. Afterwards Stefanie did her PhD at the Institute for Chemical Process Engineering at RWTH Aachen. Stefanie’s work bridges the gap between science, machine and software development. In addition to scientific advice, Stefanie is also dedicated to developing solutions with NI LabVIEW.

Dipl.-Ing. Christian Moritz

After training as an energy electronics technician specialising in industrial engineering, Christian studied electrical engineering and information at RWTH Aachen University. Programming test systems with LabVIEW is Christian’s focus at ZUMOLab. Since 2016, Christian has been a Certified LabVIEW Architect (CLA), the highest possible level of LabVIEW certification.

During his mechanical engineering studies at RWTH Aachen University, Viktor started working as a student assistant at ZUMOLab. During this time, he gained extensive knowledge of automation solutions, ranging from system planning, component selection and control cabinet construction to LabView software development and commissioning. He now uses the skills and knowledge he gained during his time as a student assistant as an engineer in our team to develop and implement customized solutions for our customers.
