Rapid-Small-Scale-Column-Tests

The Institute of Environmental Engineering (ISA) at RWTH Aachen University uses a ZUMOLab system to perform the so-called Rapid-Small-Scale-Column-Tests (RSSCT).

The RSSCT allows the investigation of adsorption processes for the removal of micropollutants from drinking water, wastewater and surface water on a cost-effective laboratory scale. This enables the selection of the most suitable adsorbent for industrial applications. In addition, existing product lines can be optimized or new adsorbents, e.g. from renewable resources, can be developed.

The setup is an adsorption test facility for the selection and development of new adsorbents for the removal of micropollutants. It consists of four adsorption columns connected in parallel. These columns are fed by a four-channel pump with adjustable flow rates. The flow rate and pressure of each column are continuously logged, as are all the setpoints and actual values of the system. In addition to data logging, the software allows live visualization of values in numerical and graphical form. Trios probes for SAK, pH and LF continuously monitor the adsorption in the column process. The autosampler at the column outlet consists of 24 sampling positions and one rinsing position. Igus linear motion units are part of the autosampler and are also controlled by the LabVIEW-based software.
